Visiting the château of Chareil-Cintrat
• Rich interior decorations (16th century). The very simple exterior gives no indication whatsoever of the remarkable interior decoration. The sculpted decoration shows the influence of the second French Renaissance and is arranged according to the three architectural registers of the Ionic, the Doric and the Corinthian. The abundant painted decorations are inspired by Antiquity and evoke the five senses, mythology and astrology.
• The Conservatory of old grape varieties. Varieties such as Romorantin, Melon, Saint-Pierre Doré and Tachou are grown using traditional techniques. Informative signs ensure visitors get the most out of the visit.
Understanding the château of Chareil-Cintrat
• A regional reworking of Italian models. Chareil used to be one of the fiefs of the house of Bourbon. In the early 16th century, Claude Morin, Controller Ordinary of Wars, commissioned Italian-style painted decorations after returning from campaigns in Italy.
